Every year we all set New Year's resolutions in the vein of the "new year, new me" or "this year is going to be my year," etc. Somewhere along the line, our goals take a back seat, progress is stagnant and you realize you had all of these plans, but didn't actually make a plan for the plan.

Even though we are in the middle of the year, it's never too late to take a step back and examine all those things you've outlined for yourself. Did you really start out the year on the good foot and put a plan of action in place starting January 1? If not, no worries! I've outlined a few tips to help you finish off 2016 on the right track personally and professionally.

Make a Vision Board twitter_newbird_blue

Have you ever heard the saying, if you can see it, you can achieve it? There’s something to that saying. A vision board allows you to find visual representation for all those goals you set for yourself. You can print out images and words or  go through magazines and cut out things that resonate with you. Make sure you hang it up in a prominent location so you can continue to be inspired all year long. Don’t be afraid to add new things to it as the year progresses.

Buy a Planner twitter_newbird_blue

Yes, yes I know, everything is electronic and you can write notes in your phone's note tab and also keep a calendar as well. But there’s something to writing things down. It helps commit it to memory and at the end of the day, it doesn’t hurt to have things in two places. It’s always good to get yourself in a good habit of being organized between work and personal obligations and a planner could be a great start.

Make a Budget and Stick to It twitter_newbird_blue

As a young professional, it's important to start managing your finances appropriately. We tell consistently tell ourselves that sticking to a budget is so hard, but not when you have goals in sight. So whether it’s an old school Microsoft excel doc or a digital tool like Mint, start finding ways to compartmentalize and track your spending. You’ll thank yourself for it and your bank account will too.

Join An Organization And Get Involved twitter_newbird_blue

No, you may not be trying to round out your extracurricular activities for a school application, but it never hurts to constantly look for opportunities for betterment. Finding like-minded people who share the same passions whether it be professional or personal can only help you stay focused on your own goals and push you to explore and grow. It’s nice to have a group of supporters in your corner. In the words of the wise DJ Khaled, “They Don’t Want You To Win,” and sometimes “they” really don’t. so why not find a place where all vibes are positive and all outcomes are just one step closer to success. #MajorKey

These are just a few tips to get you started down the path to success. It's never too late to get on the good foot for 2016. Don't be afraid to shoot your shot and let us know how many points you score by yearend.
