Anti-Trump Commercials Speak Out Through $5MM Super Bowl Ad Spend

With today's political climate, many political officials, celebrities and brands have continually spoken out against the divisive nature of the Trump administration. Meryl Streep made it known that she was anti-Trump at this year's Golden Globe Awards, Saturday Night Live doesn't seem like they'll be letting go of their Trump comedy sketches anytime soon, and Black Twitter continues to make a mockery of Trump's entire team — the most recent being the continuous use of Kellyanne Conway's "alternative facts." Consumers are no longer supporting companies who align themselves with Trump and have taken extreme measures to show their discontent, as seen with Uber and New Balance. As the tension grows here in America, many companies have made it their mission to publicly denounce the Trump administration, and they're using some of the biggest stages to do so. 

Last night we witnessed the 51st Super Bowl and saw first hand how advertisers chose to use their $5 million ad spend on commercials that promoted unity and inclusion. 

Budweiser shared the story of German immigrant, Adolphus Busch, and his immigration to America. We see people yelling for him to go back to where he came from — a clear nod to Trump's anti-immigration policy. The tale ends when he meets Eberhard Anheuser in America. Together they found the most well-known breweries, Anheuser-Busch. 

The NFL also contributed to their own inclusive messaging with their "Inside These Lines" spot. 

Airbnb has been under fire for a year or so now since we first learned that many of their hosts were discriminating against potential guests. This prompted the #AirbnbWhileBlack hash tag on Twitter and led to the formation of black-owned sites Noirbnb and Innclusive. Airbnb used the Super Bowl for some well-needed crisis management and shared their #WeAccept ad.

Google opted for a more subliminal message, showing people riding past pride flags and people of various ethnicities embracing each other.

Audi opted for a more direct message and hits on the wage gap between male and females.

Lastly, Mexican Avocado farmers reminded us where we get the majority of this precious fruit from. Still want Trump to build that wall?
